is taring a file the same as taring a direcotry?

im asking because i am sending the command you told me but its not working

TIP: make sure at the end of the directory name you put a slash /

for example, lets say i want to tar my www direcotry i would do this

CORRECT WAY:

tar -cvf www/

INCORRECT WAY:

tar -cvf www
