can you help me tell why i get this error message on my windows 7 pc:

Network Error:

windows has detected an IP address conflict

Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the windows system event log:

a message on my laptop read; windows has detected an ip address conflict. it said that i must contact the network administrator to resolve the issue. can you help within reason? and does it cost? can you inform me these details before resolving the problem.

open an explorer window and enter this path to your network:

control panel\network and internet\network connections

then click on the interface (or nic) that has the conflict and change the ip address

or

open the command line and enter this command:

ipconfig /renew all

how do i know if i have a dhcp or static ips? where do i find the ip address? how do i change an address?

if you got this error unexpected, its just best to restart your computer if you have dhcp. unless you have static ips then you will have to troubleshoot because you put the same ip address on two interfaces, you will have to change one
