im getting this error on windows xp after i reboot my computer:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your
Computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: intelppm.sys

DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATION

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. if a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced start-up options and then select safe mode.

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and
terminated. Run chkdisk/f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

same problem. xp in virtualbox. do i need to safe boot the host machine or when the virtual is booting. doesn't seem to recognize f8 while booting in virtual machine.

had the same problem on virtualbox with xp. try the trick with the registry entry in after windows safe-boot.
it's works fine now.
there's only this marked for no functional prozessor device in the device manager.

im using virtualbox in a windows pc i installed windows xp on it. i changed the cpu configuration on the virtual settings now when i boot it gives me this screen. after tweaking i found a way to fix it, but your information was helpful.

i dont think anyone reads these posts anyways. but if someone is interested in knowing how i did it, please let me know and i can post the steps here.

i forgot, just incase for those who can't access teh gui, you can send these commands in your virtual machine:

sc config processor start= disabled
sc config intelppm start= disabled

i found the answer check this out:

if you are seeing this problem repeatedly you can manually disable these drivers (with no negative side effect) by going to the following location in the registry:

hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetservicesprocessor

or

hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetservicesintelppm

and changing the 'start' value to '4'.
