star or hub networks connect the peripherals devices via point-to-point links to a central location like a hub. star topologies provide architectural flexibility but need more cable than traditional bus and ring topologies.
virtually all modern data networks are configured in a star. this permits simplified add, moves and changes. system failure from any individual segment break is minimized.
usually 10 or 100 Mbs
generic hubg = concentrator
wireless = usually 11Mbs 54 mbs and now some are 100Mbs
