Unable To Open Socket On Port 161

the usual cause of this is, when you have snmp configured but no network connection to the snmp server.
to stop this just remove the snmp server line of your config.
and add the command to the line con 0, logging synchronous. this will put all the log statements in its own separate line

i just bought a cisco 2950 switch from ebay, the switch works, but when i logged into the terminal console, i keep getting this error message that says:

21:14:23: %ip_snmp-3-socket: can't open udp socket
21:14:23: unable to open socket on port 161

what does this mean and how do it fix it?

anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this?

its making it really hard when i try to configure the switch. it appears like every 15 seconds or so and its driving me crazy because then i can't read while i am going through the configuration setup. can anyone help me?

if you were not able to stop this annoying error: cisco unable to open socket on port 161 let me know i have a script you can run to test your configurations, this is because you have your device misconfigured so thats why you get it alot and it repeats intervals

a. this message may appear just after the ubr900 cable modem boots up, or if the cable interface is disconnected. it occurs because the cable modem is trying to set up its ip network management components before it has received an ip address from the cable service provider. once the modem comes online, the error message no longer appears.
