ICMP stands for INTERNET CONTROL MESSAGE PROTOCOL -

ICMP is used to control and manage information trasmitted by using TCP/IP. by using icmp, nodes cna share status and error information. this information can be passed to heigher-level protocols, informing transmtting stations and unreacble hotst and providing insight inot the detection and resolution of transmission problems. icmp also helps re-route messages when a route is busy or has failed.

can you explain icmp in detail because i am new student trying to learn and memorize how icmp really works. like what does it mean in a network or a computer. and what layer of the osi model this protocol works on that would really help out in remembering what its for
