i know its possible for testing to check if apache mod rewrite in enabled, but what i want to know if its possible to check it using php

when it comes to apache mod_rewrite i have to say its very difficult for me to undestand to concept.

i first learned about apache mod_rewrite last month and i have been trying to learn how it work ever since and its very hard because on the apache website there is so much information. i do have expirience with php so here comes my question. how can i check it using php. is there like a function i can use to verify?
