what are the differences between Standards, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures in security for an organization?

well, if you are wondering how they differ, i hope i can explain here:

Standards – is rules and best practices that govern orgs how to conduct business. Outlines best practices for specific platform, implementations, operating systems versions and must be complied with.

Policy – A policy consists of specifying the rules and requirements which should be adhere to within an org. Policies usually cover a single area, and contain conditions of expected performance and consequences for non-compliance.

Guidelines – Guidelines are similar to standards, that that they too detail rules and best practices that govern an org and how business is conducted, The difference is that guidelines are not Mandatory. Guidelines are usually drawn up to streamline the implementation of security policy elements.

Procedures – Procedures detail how policies should be implemented within the production environment. A procedure contain a list of steps necessary to implement a policy elements.
