if you are having problems starting your GUI, you can run this command in the linux shell to configure the X server in you linux server

SHELL COMMAN:
Xconfigurator


also you can try these other commands:

SHELL COMMAN:
XFree86 -configure


or

SHELL COMMAN:
Xorg -configure
