i have an hp dv2000 laptop. i upgraded from windows xp to windows 7. everything works great. i have an intel duo cpu with 2G of memory.

after upgrading to windows 7 the cpu fan seems to go off alot. so i wanted to know about checking the temperature of the cpu. i wanted to know if how much hot it was getting. i looked for anything in the task manager that would tell me the temperature of the processor but found none. so i searched the microsoft website and microsoft makes nothing to monitor your system.

after asking a friend, he recommended me a free software program called SpeedFan

i downloaded and it works great.

you can use files in the /proc/acpi directory to monitor your system and to change defaults.
try using cat to view the contents of some of these files, as in cat /proc/acpi/event to view
recent acpi events. various tools can link into these files to provide you with useful information,
such as your cpu’s temperature and battery status. the acpi program is one of these tools; type

acpi -v

to have the system display all the information it can.
