I just installed Linux on a new web server. I also upgraded my hard drive to a 72G Drive from a 36G HP Hard Drive. When I rebooted my computer, I get the following error:

error "Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option

What happened?

the boot.log file contains system messages. check this file, it probably will give you some information about the problem. the /var/log/messages file will contain error messages generated by the kernel before the machine was rebooted, so /var/log/messages would be the first file to check if i were you to determine what is the problem with your system.

I got the same error. This error is due to hardware changes. If you changed your hardware that the OS does not recognize, you will get this error.

My situation was that I had put the scsii cable on a different slot, then I changed it back to SLOTA instead of SLOTB. it worked for me.

Since you replaced the disk, that was a hardware change, check to make sure you have all the connections the same as you had them before the hardware changes.
