dude, the best way to explain this to you it this way, this is how i learned it:
sending data is like walking across the street. with csma/cd, you just cross the street. if
you get run over, you go back and try again. with csma/ca, you look both ways and send
your little brother across the street. if he makes it, you can follow him. if either of you get run
over, you both go back and try again
