When Should You Use Frames HTML Pages

When Should You Use Frames HTML Pages

My First Frame Site - Ever since I took my first class on HTML, I have tried to avoid Frames. When I first started coding HTML, I loved frames. But as my knowledge of HTML grew, Frames became less of my favorites. I dont use frames at all in any of my websites. Frames are one of the most controversial uses of HTML. These are some of the issues with frames on HTML pages:

Compatibility - Frames Block Out Many People Whose Browsers Are Frames Incapable. When designing a framed site, its important to remind yourself that many visitors use browsers that can not handle frames. Older browser cannot view frames. Therefore, your users will not see the pages as you intended. Some webmaster might think that this is because the user is too lazy to "get a real browser". Some users use text or audio browsers which render material in a linear fashion. Other users just simply hate frames and disable them in their browsers settings or properties. If you create web sites with frames only, you are leaving out some potential traffic to your site.

Misused - One of the biggest problems with frames has to be that its easy to use them incorrectly. Many pages you find on the web that use frames are not using frames for practicality, but instead because they their look. When you create a web page, consider using frames only when it will work better for your site, not because of its looks alone.

Function - Most of the things you want to achieve with frames, you can also achieve without frames. If you decide to use frames, be ready to make repeated code for each file. Its not worth creating extra files when you can achieve the same results with only one html file. Also consider when choosing to design your web pages using frames about the future. Later you may want to change a few things on you website, making changes will be much easier when you dont have frames.

Follow these steps when considering to use frames: The first step is to design and build your website without using frames. You might be thinking why do this? Well, you have to do this anyway to provide a no-frames alternative. Test your site without frames, and make a decision how it would look if you add frames. If you feel that adding frames is worth the additional effort, then your website its probably one of the few websites the benefit from using frames.
